Quaama Public School was most fortunate to host Costa Georgiadis and his mate Dan Baker last Tuesday to help plant fruit trees, berries, grapes, vegetables and establish our worm farm in our newly constructed orchard area.
The P&C over the last 3 years has fundraised and sought grants to enable the construction of an enclosed orchard area measuring approx. 22m x 11m and 4m high. This has been a huge undertaking and quite a visionary project.
Future generations of students will have the wonderful opportunity of producing fruit, vegetables, berries and produce.
The learning opportunities cross many curriculum areas in a highly motivational manner and will propel the school’s vision of a “School Sustainable Future”.
Our students had delightful interactions with Costa whose message of positive engagement with all people, following an interest with passion and leaving a legacy in life was embraced by all in attendance. Students in their buddy pairings researched the fruit tree they were to plant on the day and produced a PowerPoint which were shown to Costa.
The school community came out in force to help our students with the plantings and we are most grateful for the support and extend an invitation to our community to remain involved in future years and help the students develop and maintain the orchard.
