Indigenous Cultural Incursion

Indigenous teacher Aunty Diedre pictured with students

Today, Quaama students in Year 3-6 spent the day learning about local Indigenous culture with National Parks and Wildlife Ranger and Yuin Elder, Aunty Diedre as well as the staff from Bournda Environmental Education Centre.

They had a great day of learning and learnt about the local Djiringanj language of our Yuin Nation that we live and work on each day. Students also learnt about the connections that the Yuin people have to the land, sea and animals of this place, how and why it is important to care for the land, how Yuin people create and use paints from natural ochres, and had an opportunity to ask questions to Aunty Diedre about a whole range of questions about the native plants that she brought in to show the students.

Students in Years K - 2 will get the same opportunity to participate in these events tomorrow.
